To Mr. Zhao revolves around the artist’s grandfather, Zhao Changde, and everyday archives from the 1990s to the 2000s. Anchored within an expansive yet fragile family album, the project combines traditional film photography, hand collage, found photographs & objects and moving image into a multi-media installation. This new reading of the archive is both an act of repairing and piecing together memory and a way to challenge and ask who gets to preserve and narrate history. The viewers are invited to feel intimacy and absence, to sense the malleability and perishability of family images, and to reflect on how their own memories and family stories are constructed.
《赵昌徳厂长收》(To Mr. Zhao) 以艺术家的祖父赵昌德及其 20 世纪 90 年代至 2000 年代的日常档案为核心展开。项目植根于一本宏大却脆弱的家庭相册之中,结合了传统胶片摄影、手工拼贴、拾得影像与物件以及影像装置,构成一件多媒介装置作品。对档案的重新阅读既是一种对记忆的修复与拼接,也是一种对“谁有权保存并叙述历史”的提问与挑战。作品邀请观者在观看中感受亲密与缺席,体察家庭影像的可塑性与易逝性,并反思自身记忆与家庭叙事是如何被建构的。

During Mr.Zhao’s extensive travels, Mr. Zhao took numerous photographs of himself and his wife in the same angle, same posture, sameposition, but in different roles.

In Mr. Zhao's photos, I found a large number of images with similar scenes, and I tried to treat the unfamiliar grandfather as absent.
